<![CDATA[
At ANAEI, we are aware that part of our Outdoor & Spa product portfolio is classified as beanbags due to the fact that it is lounge or seating furniture with polystyrene bead filling. It is a fact that the first and original products of this type were simple cloth sacks filled with polystyrene beads, as they are still manufactured and sold by different suppliers, so this classification is actually correct.
Yet, we don't think that the term beanbag is appropriate for our products, as our products are anything but a simple bag of fabric. On the contrary, they are seating and lying pieces of furniture of high quality and beautiful shapes and designs with a high level of lounge comfort. Thus, we prefer the alternative names of loungers & poufs for our outdoor & spa furniture filled with polystyrene beads, which are referred to as seat loungers, chaise longue loungers or daybed loungers as well as poufs, depending on the purpose of use & the size.
However, if we have to stick to the common term ‘beanbag’, for which there are now numerous manufacturers and suppliers on the market, is every beanbag the same? And how are they different from each other? What are the criteria for distinguishing the individual products, also with regard to their price?
Production: is the beanbag made by hand or industrially? The industrial production of several thousand pieces of beanbags is obviously much cheaper than the manual production of individual pieces and thus has a direct impact on the price.
Origin: where is the beanbag made? Industrial mass production in Asia, especially in China or other low-wage countries, is much cheaper compared to an industrial production in Europe or a mostly manual production in Europe and that has a direct impact on the price.
Product type: what kind of beanbag is it? A simple fabric or plastic bag is much easier and cheaper to produce than a beanbag with the shape of actual seating or lying furniture, which is also reflected in the price.
Product size: how big is the beanbag? This has to do with transportation, the transport options and the associated transport costs. In logistics and shipping, girth measurements are used. If the beanbag is a simple beanbag that can be easily folded or compressed into a smaller package and can be transported within a certain girth, shipping using numerous transport service providers is relatively inexpensive. However, if the beanbag is in the form of a piece of seating or lying furniture and is actually not a simple beanbag, but a piece of furniture that requires a certain packaging size outside the regular girth, transport is almost only possible via forwarding and individual transport agents, which is particularly important in times like this and greatly affects the transport costs and thus also the price.
Execution: what is the execution of the beanbag? Does the cover of the beanbag have a zipper to remove the cover? Is the cover washable? Does the beanbag have an extra inner sleeve for easy refilling of polystyrene beads? Does the inner shell have several chambers so that the seating or lying comfort is guaranteed in the long term? The type of design has a direct impact on the way of use of a beanbag and thus on the sustainability and price of the beanbag.
Use: for what use is the beanbag made? If a beanbag is only made for indoor use, it can be made with any standard fabric or leather used in standard furniture manufacturing. If the beanbag is also made for outdoor or spa use, special materials are required, high-quality and particularly durable fabrics or artificial leather for outdoor & spa use, weatherproof yarns for processing, weatherproof zippers and weatherproof inner protective covers made of PVC, PU or similar.
Quality of the materials used: what is the quality of the materials used? The feel of the materials used is particularly important for beanbags, which are supposed to be essentially comfortable and adaptable to the shape of the user hence act as a hug. Cheap materials with a plastic feel may not necessarily contribute to comfort, but of course they are cheaper to manufacture. If the beanbag can also be used outside, the beanbag must be made of special high-quality and water-repellent fabrics or artificial leather for outdoor use, which should ideally be coated on the outside and laminated on the inside, but still have a natural fabric or leather feel. For outdoor use, the materials must have a high level of lightfastness or a high lightfastness factor so that the coatings retain their color in the sun for as long as possible and do not fade. The quality of the inner protective cover used, if any, should increase the weather resistance of the beanbag. The quality of the polystyrene beads used determines how quickly they may shrink or deteriorate and need to be exchanged, and thus also the lifespan of the beanbag.
Brand: how well known is the brand of the beanbag? The brand awareness of a product is almost always directly related to a manufacturer's marketing expenses, for which of course they have to be compensated. Thus, the price of a beanbag is not always in line with the previously mentioned price criteria such as manufacture, regionality, type & size, use & quality of the beanbag, but is often distorted by brand awareness and expenditure in marketing activities.
Every beanbag is not the same. A beanbag of industrial mass production in China or similar low-cost manufacturing countries, delivered in large numbers to hardware stores and wholesalers without high standards of comfort or longevity, is therefore of course disproportionately cheaper than beanbags that are handmade in Europe with a claim to design, quality, comfort & durability & consequently sustainability.

                <![CDATA[
More and more manufacturers and suppliers of garden furniture are labeling their products as weatherproof. Quite understandably so, since the weather resistance of garden furniture is actually an important asset for a product and a decisive selling point when it comes to garden furniture. Who wants to worry about their garden furniture all summer long, cover it up or even carry it in and out every time there is a change in weather conditions?
Some go even further and describe their garden furniture as waterproof. Often, however, one finds that one's own idea of weatherproof or waterproof apparently has nothing in common with the definition provided by the manufacturer or supplier and that the favorite piece begins to lose its shine or show signs of rust or mold after the first rain showers. So, how can you tell if garden furniture is actually weatherproof or weather resistant?
Weather resistance per se describes a product that has been manufactured in such a way that it is not affected by the effects of the weather or that it is protected against the effects of the weather. Garden furniture is mainly made of wood, metal, polyrattan, plastic or textiles.
Garden furniture made of wood is basically very robust, natural and durable. It is important that the garden furniture is made of wood such as teak, acacia or eucalyptus wood and that it is regularly maintained. When it comes to garden furniture made of metal, aluminum furniture is very popular because it is lightweight, but also because of the material's resistance to weathering and corrosion. Pieces made of stainless steel have a similar resilience to aluminium, iron garden furniture is more demanding & needs a high-quality powder coating for protection against rust. Garden furniture made of plastic or polyrattan is also very durable and easy maintenance.
Things become more tricky when it comes to garden furniture made of fabrics. Basically, it can be said that no product made of fabric can be waterproof. That is in the nature of things & this claim is simply dubious, since moisture and dampness always find their way through the seams in the long run. Here, however, the quality of the materials used plays a very important role. The cushions, pads or beanbags must be made of outdoor fabrics of high-quality synthetic fibers especially for outdoor use, they should be coated on the outside and ideally laminated on the inside so that the greatest possible protection against moisture and dampness is guaranteed and the product is at least water-repellent. However, since moisture and dampness will still find their way through during heavy rain showers, it is important that the interior of the garden furniture is as weatherproof as possible - an interior made of dry foam that has plastic properties and cannot become moldy, or fillings with a second protective layer made of PV or PU are signs of good quality.
No garden furniture can boast year-round weather resistance in the changing seasons and in environmental factors such as rain, snow, sun, dust and dirt. Garden furniture made of wood, metal, polyrattan, plastic and fabrics can achieve maximum weather resistance with the right choice of high-quality material and processing, as well as care.

                <![CDATA[
A beautiful & cozy home with an outdoor area, a garden, a terrace or at least a small balcony was what everyone desired even before the pandemic. With the pandemic, during which most people were locked up in their own living areas for longer periods of time than usual and professional activities for many shifted to the home office and thus to their own 4 walls, their own home became even more important. The location, size, comfort and practical aspects of your own home, but also an outdoor area to spend time outside, now play a much greater role than before in everyone’s life.
If you are fortunate enough to be living in a home with an outdoor area, you can choose from a large selection of garden furniture of various types, designs and quality when it comes to furnishing your own garden, terrace or balcony. A classic garden table with garden chairs? A lounge set made of wood, metal or rattan, which is still very popular? A hanging chair or a hammock? A classic garden or sun lounger? A covered lounge bed or lounge island? A garden bench? Beanbags in different shapes? Poufs & ottomans? Floor cushions for just lounging around? The product categories available are vast, the number of suppliers, the differences in price, quality and design are endless.
But before you even engage yourself in looking through the large selection & bearing the expense, you should perhaps think about what you actually want to do in your outdoor area & what you will realistically do that would be fun. Too many living spaces are furnished with pieces and objects that look nice or fit in well, that you have seen at your neighbors', that you daydream about using and then somehow never do so. The number of grills bbqs that have never been used and are rusting away is certainly just as high as the number of lounge sets that have almost never been sat on, because perhaps you don’t get to grill that often nor does a large number of friends come by for a glass of Prosecco on a daily basis.
Do you want to use the outdoor area mainly for eating outdoors? Then you should invest in a high-quality garden table with comfortable garden armchairs, which are also good for sitting to eat, perhaps in combination with a parasol, a grill and storage space for cutlery & crockery. If you want to lie in the sun, sunbathe, take a nap or read a good book and just relax, then classic sun loungers, hammocks or bean bags or daybed loungers should be in demand, depending on your preferences. If you only plan on sitting outside with a glass of wine after work anyway, then a hanging chair or a beanbag or seat lounger with a pouf to put your feet up will probably be more than sufficient. If you are actually expecting a lot of friends, a lounge set as well as a mix of floor cushions and poufs would be required, so that everyone can find a comfortable place.
It is simply important that the selection of garden furniture matches the actual use of the outdoor area & that you consider beforehand how the space will be used realistically, making sure you get the most out of it. Then the right selection of garden furniture will become an easy & fun task to accomplish!
